Sporting initiative in Mahul village
Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) partnering with Abhi Foundation- Do Good Sports have set up a unique initiative in Mahul village of the state under which they will provide professional level training in hockey, football and athletics to the children of this village. Local ground support has been provided by the Mahul Vikas Prathisthan. Mahul, Ambada and Gavan are quiet, little, fishing villages away from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai. Villagers are simple fishing community and the children engage in sporting activities at the Gangaram B Mahulkar Maidan at Mahul. Till date no serious and organized effort had been made to develop sporting activities here.
In the orthodox village atmosphere where girls did not get much opportunity for outdoor sporting activities, the Abhi-TPCDT Sports Development Initiative has come as a welcome move. Girls were the most enthusiastic lot at the time of registration for the Coaching Camp which is proposed to be conducted year long. Parents were full of hope for a brighter future for their children. As against an expected 100 registrations, about 240 children have registered so far.
Tata Power Community Development Trust hopes that through this initiative they will be able to empower the youth of Mahul and surrounding villages to grow, evolve and achieve through the power of sports. All trainees will be provided with sports kit, training gear and equipment. TPCDT aims to promote local talent by providing professional coaching while promoting overall development in children of the villages.
On March 4, Sunday morning, the Abhi-TPCDT Sports Development Initiative was launched in a grand ceremony at the GB Mahulkar Maidan at Mahul. Several prominent celebrities and sporting personalities graced the occasion.
