Orlando among top travel destinations for 2012 – not the attractions, the city
ORLANDO —
Were used to seeing Orlando in lists of top travel spots. But thats usually referring to the theme parks: Disney, Universal or SeaWorld.
CNN Travel published a list Tuesday of the worlds top destinations for 2012, and sure enough, Orlando showed up again — but this time, its not because of the attractions.
Travel expert Robert Reid, US editor for Lonely Planet, encouraged travelers to check out the rest of the City Beautiful, calling it a legitimate surprise.
The amusement park scene has no connection to the city itself.
Reid specifically recommended Orlandos Milk District along Robinson Street, and the Vietnamese restaurants around Virginia Drive and Mills Avenue.
The list also mentioned Orlando will be the place to be for celebrities come February, when the Amway Center hosts the NBA All-Star Game.
Chicago was the only other US city on CNN Travels list, which also included:
- England
- World of the Maya
- Myanmar
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines
- The Netherlands
- Atlantic Canada
- Uruguay
